So...how's the new Shell Race gas compare with VP? I'm quite impressed with Shell's URT Advanced!! When comparing it to C16 (VP's leaded race gas), it creates very similar results on the dyno. What’s even cooler is the fact it’s not leaded, which means decreased maintenance level from not having to use a Leaded fuel (I.e. Plug changes, increased Oil changes, 02 sensor changes, cat converter friendly, etc).

So, now compare it to VP’s MS109 (VP's unleaded race gas) …It’s 5 octane numbers HIGHER than VP's MS109 unleaded, which is 105 octane. Additionally MS109 is oxygenated & the Shell URT Advanced fuel is not, which means you don’t have to make fuel curve changes as you would with the MS109, which has a 13.41 stoich point. Calibration wise, its really close to 93 octane.

Would love to hear others feedback & thoughts!

Thanks for your feedback on Shell's URT fuels! URT = Unleaded Racing Technology

Since I've been involved with the project of helping get this fuel into the hands of dyno shops, I've been VERY impressed with the results.
Not only can Shell URT Advanced "drop right in" to a car that has been tuned for C16 (same effective stoich point @14.77:1), it's actually more detonation resistant than C16 and you can tune the car for more power (assuming more boost or timing will yield more power on your particular car). At the very least, even if you don't wish to re tune the car for more power, it's a replacement which yields a larger safety cushion (in the form of more detonation resistance) and being unleaded, it's not going to kill your cats or O2 sensors.

Here are a couple cars in which we were able to show Shell URT has a higher detonation resistance (read: octane) than VP C16:

URT Advanced is also (in tuning reality, anyway) considerably more than 5 octane points higher than MS109. MS109 is 105 R+M/2 and even though URT Advanced publishes the fuel as "110 octane" it actually replaces leaded fuel up to 116 Octane, and we've seen this now many times over in that it outperforms even VP C16, let alone MS109...

One of the cars we tuned was pinging on C16 at any boost level over 26psi, yet Shell URT Advanced took 28+ psi like a champ and took a 980 HP car to a 1072 HP car...

Shell has another fuel called "URT 105" which is another 105 R+M/2 fuel and draws a better comparison to MS109 because MS109 is actually 105 octane R+M/2

URT105 and URT Advanced are unleaded, NOT OXYGENATED and contain NO ETHANOL. They store well, they make more power than comparable leaded fuels, mix very well with pump gas when necessary or unavoidable (for example, street/strip cars, no stoich issues) and they are O2 sensor and cat safe. They literally make leaded fuels obsolete!

The 3rd Shell URT race fuel is called URT100 (100 octane by "pump standards" aka R+M/2) and it is street legal everywhere in the US, including California.
It is 3.5% oxygenated and contains ethanol in order to be labeled a "reformulated" gasoline, which is partly why it's 50 state street legal. Very awesome stuff. Some of the VP Streetblaze guys have tried it and like URT100 better.

For the shops that are interested in becoming distributors, please email me (info@parts-grabber.com) and I'll get you set up. The buy in is insanely low @ $500

For racers and consumers, some very high profile shops have already signed up as dealers and can sell you fuel: including BlowByRacing, JDM, Unleashed Tuning, Local Speed Shop, Shelby Motorsports, Hennessey Performance, The Dyno Shop, Dez Racing, JPC Racing, VMP Tuning, Exum Motorsports, Wilson Performance and many others...

If you can make all of the power, do it without lead, get better wear performance than lead, save your O2 Sensors and do it for the same or less cost than leaded race fuel, we can then pose the question: Why would you ever want leaded race fuel again? It's obsolete =o)

Come see me at PRI and I'll show you why you don't need leaded fuel anymore. I know this is a bold statement, but once you tune with these fuels, you'll know =o)

Great info, Jim. Thank you! Definitely looking forward to seeing another affordable fuel option out there.

I'm a big fan of the VP109 which with just tuning and intake on a stock SRT Jeep I was able to run 12.1's due to the timing allowed (and other tuning features) so this is good news. I know California and some other states have bans on the VP109 due to it's contents how does this Shell fuel fair in those states with MBT bans?

Shell URT100 is DOT approved and legal for use, even in STREET vehicles in California (INFO HERE (http://www.shell.com/home/content/globalsolutions/products_services/racing_solutions/racing_solutions_usa/racing_fuels/)).
What's more awesome about it is it has no ethanol and is not oxygenated, so if you blend it with street gas you're not only significantly raising the octane, but you're reducing some of the mileage robbing ethanol (Not to mention, ethanol does nothing good for the fuel whatsoever, all other things equal.).

California's horrible 91 octane fuel suddenly isn't so bad mixed 50/50 with 100 octane, or you can just run URT100 straight up

With that said, California slaps regulations on just about anything, and even though URT105 and URT Advanced contain no lead, no oxygenation, or no ethanol, I'm not 100% sure how California will react to it on the street.

URT100 is DEFINITELY legal for street use, though.
