how do i check for vacume leaks? my idle is sticking at 1500 rpms

Get yourself a can of starting fluid, start the car COLD!!!, spray fluid around hoses and gasket surfaces, if you have a leak the idle will jump up or smooth out. Never do this test on a hot engine!!!
