I was wondering if anyone can help me out here. I'm currently with Allstate for my insurance company. I have a 03 Gt Convert and my wife has a 05 Jetta. I called Gieco and they gave me a quote that would be $860 less a year than Allstate. My wife had an accident back in 01 (told Geico about it) and my license is clean. Not really sure how it can be that much cheaper, but anyway, i've been hearing that Gieco will give you a cheap quote and then once you have a policy your rates start to go up. Plus if you put a claim in my wife has heard that they will drop you. Can anyone confurm this or any other help would be great. Thanks!!!!

I don't have or had Geico but anyone is cheaper then AllState. Shop around, and you will find something less then what you are paying now.

I have gieco. As you all know i have been involed in 2 accidents. After the first one my insurance went down, 500 a year. Go figure. Had my second one and no problems. But they both were not my fault. As far as gieco goes, By far the best ins. company i have used yet. They took care of everyhting for me. Didn't have to do anything, as far as my claims, rentals and such...

Hmm thats funny cause I was almost 800 a year cheaper with Allstate over Geico. Just stay away from state farm.....I had my s10 through them and my rate slowly got higher every month.
And don't just be looking at the $$$$.....there are many things to consider with insurance....coverage, agent's helpfullness when something happens, deductables, etc.

Another important thing's to ask is for there rating. Go with an "A" rated company. You run into less problems if any with a "A" company vs. a "B or C"

Mystics--I posted this a while ago and figured rather than retype it I would just copy and paste. Just some food for thought when shopping for car insurance. When I called Geico and other companies they quoted me lower rates than my Good Neighbor but it was because the policy limits were lower. When I asked for a quote for equivalent pol limits they were usually more expensive. Hope you find the info below informative.

One piece of advice. The cheapest is not always the best. Be sure to look at what type of coverage you are getting, in particular the coverage for Bodily injury and Property Damage.
In todays day and age with lawyers advertising everywhere for accident victims to bring lawsuits you want to make sure you have plenty of coverage here. Talk to the company you ultimately decide to go with but at a minimum go with 100/300. 250/500 is more like it. You never know when, by accident, you will run a red light and hit a motorcyclist. Although not intentional, a lawyer will look to make you pay.
For Property Damage go with a minimum of 100,000. It's not uncommon to see a 100,000 Mercedes/BMW etc on the road or if you happen to lose control and hit two 50,000 cars you will be thankful you went with that limit.
A lot of companies advertise how much they will save you but that is usually with minimal limits such as 25/50/25. That means if the accident is your fault and you are sued for injuries your policy will only pay out 25,000 per person, 50,000 total. So if you injure 4 people the payout for each one could be 12,500-if the injuries are severe this will not provide enough coverage to keep you from being sued. As for the car you hit the max your policy will pay is 25,000. An E class Mercedes could easily sustain that much damage and not be a total loss and even if it were a total loss the value would be more than your policy, possibly leaving you on the hook for the balance.
It will be much easier to get a lawyer to have his client sign a release for 250,000 for injuries than 25,000 or 100,000. Same goes for Property Damage. Hope you find this info helpful.

That is all very true and i hope a lot of people realize that and take it into consideration. But when i got the quote on line from Geico and was on the phone i made sure that it was for 100/300 and all that good stuff (apples to apples). I need to have 100/300 on my insurance because VW leasing require it, and the guy on the phone confirmed this and all so read back the coverage to me, thank you for the advice!!!!!!!

I just renewed with Geico and my wife just got hit 2 weeks ago by an allstate client. The girl driving admitted to going through a Stop sign.
We made a claim to Geico and to Allstate. Allstate Sucks!!!!!!!
I understand they are trying to save themselves money cause we don't have a policy with them, but they really smoke the big sausage.
Geico came out, inspected the van, gave us a check on the spot for $10,000. All ford parts except for some aftermarket which is headlights and a hood.
Allstate came out and wanted to get the nose off a junkyard van and weld it onto ours!!!! The body shop manager was livid, he called me on my cell while Allstate was there, told me what they said and then he threw them off his site.
Now my wife's van is 10 months old with 11,000 miles. So F Allstate. But Geico is very good to us so far. I'll let you know how this turns out.

I used to work (still do on the side) in collision repair. From a repair standpoint stay away from ALLSTATE, NATIONWIDE, & PROGRESSIVE. Always good to us were State Farm, Erie, and NJ Manufacturers. I've actually received quotes from 2 different agents selling the same insurance and received 2 totally DIFFERENT quotes. So shop different agents too. My advice would be if its your baby, go with a good company, if it's a beater or a lease go cheap providing coverage is the same.
